
Résumé
This book, based on the authors' long experience of teaching the BEM, is designed to introduce in a simple, up-to-date and most effective manner engineering students and professionals to the BEM and enable them to employ this modern, well established, versatile and powerful computational tool for analysis and design. The material is organized and presented in a systematic way making the book "user-friendly" and easy to comprehend. Prerequisite knowledge of mathematics and mechanics is restricted only to undergraduate level and all the necessary concepts are reviewed in Chapter 2. FORTRAN computer programs are presented in detail and are provided in the accompanying CD-ROM. They familiarize students with the development of BEM software and its use to solve real life engineering problems, such as torsion of bars, deflection of membranes, bending of plates, heat conduction, fluid flow and plane elasticity. Numerous illustrative examples help to clarify important issues. Each chapter is enriched with problems-to-solve whose solutions are given in Appendix C.
