Health and Sports in Africa
A Challenge for Development
Résumé
"If hope can be rekindled through the practice of sports, it is vital to advocate the right to physical education and sports, the right of every individual to practice the sports discipline of his choice as a necessity, through health promotion (most especially among youths), for a better consolidation of achievements. But can a pandemic-ravaged Africa rise up to the challenge? Is Africa ready to completely assume its responsibilities and initiate the needed breakthroughs? Such are the fundamental pending questions!
The reflections and recommendations in this book have already laid the ground of a consistent programme of action adapted to the realities and the actual needs of the continents athletes. It is hoped that the management of problems related to the improvement of the health of the African athlete on the basis of bilateral multilateral collaboration, with the requested participation of donors, non-governmental organizations and organizations of the United Nations System (WHO, UNAIDS, The Global Funds against HIV/AIDS/Tuberculosis/Malaria, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, WFP, etc) will help to rekindle hope at the level of the entire continent."
