This volume contains a series of papers invited by the Journal of Nonlinear Science editors and dedicated to the memory of Juan-Carlos Simo, one of its original editors. The articles are largely in areas that were of scientific interest to Professor Simo, including mechanics, geometry, applied dynamics, and computation. Juan-Carlos Simo did not see boundaries among computation, mathematics, mechanics, and dynamics, and crossed these boundaries with extremely high-quality and productive interactions.
