Quantum computing devices can be classified according to the environment they work in: Quantum assisted equipment solves problems in traditional systems, such as signal demodulation in 4G mobile systems, or increases the efficiency of a network-planning tool. Quantum based devices operate in a quantum environment e.g. in quantum channels. Both topics bear huge potential for the future of telecoms engineering. Transistors of integrated circuits are already built to atomic scale, i.e. quantum effects must be considered.

Quantum Computing for Communications:

  • Uniquely discusses quantum computing from an engineering point of view.
  • Comprehensively introduces quantum computing, quantum algorithms, quantum assisted solutions for telecommunication problems, and quantum based communications.
  • Provides an overview of the properties of a typical quantum channel and the quantum counterparts of the classical lower layer techniques such as source compression, channel coding, multiple access control, etc.
  • Introduces several computationally hard telecommunications problems (multi-user detection in wireless system, network planning, digital signature, etc.) and their quantum-assisted solutions.
