The Facts On File Dictionary of Chemistry, Fourth Edition contains more than 3,000 cross-referenced entries that explain the most frequently used terms in modern chemistry.

Revised and expanded since the edition published six years ago, this edition contains more than 300 new entries that reflect advances in chemistry. The most important new element in the dictionary is the inclusion of pronunciation symbols for more than 1,700 uncommon terms. The fourth edition features two new tools - a "Guide to Using the Dictionary" that explains the main features of dictionary entries and a "Pronunciation Key" that details how to interpret pronunciation symbols inserted next to an entry.

In addition to 60 line drawings, the dictionary includes a bibliography and appendixes - a detailed table of carboxylic acids; illustrated charts of amino acids, sugars, nitrogenous bases, and nucleosides; the Periodic Table of Elements; the Greek alphabet; and a list of Web sites.
