Résumé
This is the first text to focus on virtual reality
applications for design of the built environment.
This guide explores the use of virtual reality at the
practical level. It provides an overview of industrial
applications of virtual reality and explores relevant
scientific research. International case studies explore the
use of virtual reality within leading organizations
concerned with construction, engineering, architectural
design and planning. Key examples from other leading
sectors are also highlighted. The book acts as an
accessible and innovative resource, bridging the gap
between technological fantasy and current practice.
The companion web site offers access to online virtual
reality models, and links to on-line virtual reality sites,
making this a valuable design resource, and a stimulus for
innovation.
Virtual reality promises to radically change the design,
construction and management of the built
environment. As an interactive spatial real-time medium it
is beginning to be used by professionals to enable
participation in the design process, and to facilitate
planning and management at the urban scale. This book
explores the opportunities that virtual reality
offers and engages the cognitive, technical and
organizational issues its use raises.
