Biometric Systems
Technology, Design and Performance Evaluation
James Wayman, Anil K. Jain, Davide Maltoni, Dario Maio
Résumé
This book provides practitioners with an overview of the principles and methods needed to build reliable biometric systems for automatic human recognition. It covers three main topics: key biometric technologies, testing protocols and results, and the legal and system considerations of biometric systems. It focuses on four of the most widely used technologies-speaker, fingerprint, iris and face recognition. It also provides the reader with the most comprehensive overview to date of the US constitutional issues involved in the government use of biometric identification.
It includes:
- in-depth coverage of the technical approaches to speaker, face, iris and fingerprint recognition
- Presentation of protocols and results from the major international testing programs for face, speaker and fingerprint technologies
- Discussion of design issues often poorly understood by application developers and system integrators, which can result in shortfalls between expected and actual performance
- Detailed discussion of the legal and privacy issues of biometric technology from both the U.S. and European perspectives
Biometric Systems - Technology, Design and Performance Evaluation is intended as a reference book for anyone involved in the design, management or implementation of biometric systems. In particular it will be of interest to biometric solutions developers, project managers, system integrators and administrators, application programmers and consultants.
