Atomic and Molecular Photoabsorption: Absolute Total Cross Sections

evaluates the available spectral information relevant to, how common gases interact with various sources of electromagnetic radiation, encompassing the visible, ultraviolet, vacuum ultraviolet and x-rays. The best available absolute photoabsorption cross sections, as tested by five sum rules, are supplied for many common gases as a basis for determining radiation effects as well as determining the presence and abundance of particular atoms or molecules in atmospheric and stellar environments and plasmas. Photon data is supplemented by electron data and theory. The coverage is systematic and organized around representative atoms, diatomic, triatomic and polyatomic molecules, including buckminsterfullerene. The book includes a large number of data tables containing a breakdown of cross sections in different spectral ranges as well as many figures. A distinguishing aspect of this book is the synthesis across a broad spectrum of wavelengths and the compilation of data for a large number of atoms and molecules.
