The physics of everyday phenomena
A conceptual intoduction to physics
Résumé
This text introduces the basic concepts of physics using examples of common occurrences. Beginning students will benefit from the large number of student aids and the reduced math content. Professors will appreciate the organization of the material and the wealth of pedagogical tools.
- Effective pedagogy includes unit openers and chapter overviews that alert students to the most important concepts. Internal summaries clarify and remind students of what is most important.
- Instead of traditional titles for each section, leading questions introduce the material.
- "Everyday Phenomena" boxes throughout the text analyze common phenomena in more detail. Many examples are drawn from sports and others include lightning, auto collisions, and television sets.
- On-line learning center provides students with quizzing, crossword puzzles, animations, and more and provides instructors with an IM, images from the book, animations, and more.
- PowerWeb access is available free with purchase of a new textbook.
- Revision Updates:
1. A new chapter on physical optics and color, will also
include topics on thin film interference and soap bubbles
as well as the polarization phenomena.
2. Revisions of the chapter on waves to include more on
sound and the physics of music.
3. Addition of 6 to 8 new Everyday Phenomena Boxes to this
edition.
4. Addition of more open-ended questions in each
chapter.
5. Revision of the exercises within each chapter.
6. Addition of more home experiments within the
chapters.
7. Discussion of the internal structure of a battery in
Chapter 13.
- Digital Content Manager: This multimedia collection of visual resources allows instructors to utilize artwork from the text in multiple formats to create customized classroom presentations, visually-based tests and quizzes, dynamic course website content, or attractive printed support materials. The digital assets on this cross-platform CD-ROM are grouped by chapter within easy-to-use folders.
