Based on the theory that the organisation is best understood by examining the external environment first, this introduction to the subject provides students with a holistic learning experience, combining taught and self-managed elements. The approach integrates fully the acquisition of knowledge with the development of practical, transferable skills. The text starts with an analysis of the external environment and the transactional dependencies between each organization and its own particular environment. This is followed by an examination of elements of the internal environment, organizational behavior and the functions common to all organizations, always making the link to the external environment with case studies and questions.
