Résumé
Knots are as ancient as the beginning of time. But knot theory is an exciting newcomer in mathematics and plays an essential role in today's hottest fields, including DNA research, synthetic chemistry, dynamical systems, fluid mechanics, and cutting-edge physics. Why Knot? An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Knots presents this fascinating topic in an easy-to-read, illustrated comic-book format that actively engages the reader. Each new book is packaged with the Tangle®, a manipulative that's perfect for tying the knots presented in the Experiments throughout the book.
Appealing to a wide audience, including higher education undergraduates, gifted high school students, and anyone with an interest in mathematics, Why Knot? supplements many undergraduate mathematics courses, particularly topology, liberal arts mathematics, and pre- or in-service teacher preparation.
With the ease and charm of a comic book, Why Knot? introduces the reader to the profound and still-to-be-explored field of knot theory.
